11.What are you requesting funding for?
The Protecting our Children project is aimed at reducing the number of pre-adolescent children of refugees
and migrants from being attracted to crime and joining gangs.
Qoys Daryeel’s research and knowledge of the refugee community in Hillingdon and in Hayes Town in
particular, has shown that children of around the age of 11 are already vulnerable to being exposed to the
“glamour” of crime and gang-culture and its association with feeling part of a community.
Our courses aim to educate the target group into not falling into the trap of a criminal career. We not only
have experts in the field but also ex-gang members who can help deliver the courses.
The target audience will be the vulnerable group itself plus parents and other interested adults – eg
representatives from social services and teachers.

The outcomes we are aiming for are:
1. A reduction in numbers being attracted to crime
2. Creating inspiration and motivation for young people to discover their true skills and the contribution
they could make to the Hayes community
3. Raising the levels of self-esteem and low expectations within the target group.

14.What is your or your organisations connection to the Hayes area?
Qoys Daryeel was established as a CIO on 13 th  July 2020 whose registered address is 99 Coldharbour Lane,
Hayes UB3 3EF. The majority of our activity has been conducted within the Borough of Hillingdon, with
specific emphasis on Hayes.
We provide services to refugee communities in the borough focusing particularly on the East African
community and providing services such as translation, counselling, sign-posting people in need to local
agencies, physical exercise, health awareness.
This has brought us into close contact with the refugee and immigrant community and made us aware of the
challenges that they face. The issue of gang-related crime has now reached unacceptable levels, which leads
us to propose this project.
